Has the County Street bridge closure driven you to madness? How do you think the work on the Newport Avenue bridge, set to begin in August, will affect you? Talk about it in this forum!

I am curious why it will take 3 years to build a small bridge or two small bridges? It is beyond my comprehension why it should take so long? The Empire State building took 21 days. I live off of Newport Ave. and have a friend that lives on Connor Court, it is less than 3 miles away IF the County Street Bridge was open. When is the projected completion date, do you know?

I think you have your numbers off a bit - it did not take 21 days to complete the Empire State building. It actually took 410 days . . . . still, VERY impressive. 3 years seems to be an awful long time to finish this bridge but you have to remember, you're dealing with the state! I guess we should give them a little break since they have to do their work while still allowing traffic to flow, both vehicular and train. They have it slated for an August 2011 completion but I'm willing to bet you'd be wise to add a year to that date . . . .

maybe it took 21 days to lay all the carpet in the empire state building, but the building itself took a year and 45 days to build... so you were off a bit. but im with ricknkim, three years is way too long

Just ANOTHER reason to emigrate FROM the Commonwealth.

The whole thing is ridiculous. We can't manage to get a bridge fixed in this city in quicker than 5 years.
