There doesn't seem to be much traffic here at the TSCOC Forums. Maybe we have more readers than people who post. Satisfy my curiosity by posting a reply advising whether you are just a reader, or you do read and post. I'll start it off:
I agree, the look is old and could use a facelift, the kind that would attract younger people with new perspectives. As far as online communities go, it does have that established institutional look, maybe one that's consistent with a well established newspaper??? A simple font and color change would work!
I agree with you though, with more people going online for their news and with the increasing popularity of blogging, it's time for a change! Perhaps you could run a forum/contest for best new look for the TSCOC main page. That might be fun as well as productive. Ask Colin Blaney or Craig Borges first, but I think they would be in favor of any positive changes...
*Keep in mind that many here may not view change as a positive, so be ready for some differing points of view...
I think 1 simple way to better-publicize the on-line community and/or blogs would be to prominently post a quote somewhere on the front page - a quote that may be provacative, one the sums-up the comments behind the previous days headlines, etc. along with the posters screen name. If some people saw that quote and it provoked a feeling in them, they may be more inclined to visit and post a response and/or check the site out. If the quote is lame, not sure what interest it would garner.
If that quote was then attached to a tag line/link info about this board, it may gain some exposure and attract more folks. The front page is supposed to be used for sensationalism, provocation, etc. to get point of purchase buyers to buy a single-copy. Most single-copy buyers, in most markets, are younger folks - that said, make the quotes/topics for this online community speak to a younger crowd perhaps?
