i'm writing from florida where i found this little wooden box in my great-grandfather's things...it reads "winter bros. co., wrentham, mass., any ideas who winter bros. were? thanks, bill

Hi,
Winter Brothers was a locally owned company that became Crosby Ashton,to later become something else .They made steam release valves.It is/was located right behind downtown Wrentham,the street running next to Sammys Restaurant.The box you have most likely contained/contains tools.I also have one..My dad worked there for 30+ years till his death.Hope this helps.

The ownership chain goes something like this. Winter Brothers to Crosby Valve and Gage, to Crosby Valve/FMC to Crosby Ashton in 1998. Ashton moved the production of small valves to Texas, and it has probably moved off-shore by now. The large valve business had stayed in Wrentham but they have announced the closing of this too. Whatever remains will move to Mansfield MA.
