Does anyone consider that fact that the Animal Shelter is located a few feet from the firing range? There are plans to build a new facility for Nine Lives Cat Shelter next to the firing range. Has anyone been down there when the firing range is in use? Guess what, I live 1/2 way up the street and I can hear the gun fire along w/ every dog that is in the shelter barking. Is this health for the dogs? What will it do to the cats when they move in. The residence of that area were not even made aware that the firing range was being moved from Pine to Hill.
Hi
No, I did not know that a cat shelter is being put so near a firing range or that dogs are being kept nearby also. As an animal lover, I am not happy about this. More people should be aware of this situation and request that a quieter location be found. Noise is a high stress factor for humans, so it must have the same effect upon animals. A shelter, opposed to a loving home, is stress enough for these poor animals. Please, town officials, have compassion and find another more peaceful location for our loving animal friends. Please. Thank you for making me aware of this situation, Nancilee

I'm so glad someone else is concerned for the animals that are too close to the firing range. The range was moved from Pine Street to Hill Street before anyone even knew it. I hope town officials and Nine Lives look into this matter. The firing range can be heard for miles along w/ the dogs barking. This past summer was almost impossible to be out in the yard w/ out hearing the guns and the cry of all the dogs trapped in the animal shelter. Hopefully SOMEONE will hear us!!!
Hi Nancilee, There is nothing being done by our Town Officials. Every day for the past two weeks the firing range has been in use from 8:00 am until 2:30 pm. The Animal Shelter is right there, the dogs bark all day. I can't believe that NO ONE is taking action. This problem needs to be addressed. Who do we turn too?
I believe that the town manager is the person to speak with. Further, you would think that the dog officer would regard this as animal abuse. We pay his salary to keep our pets safe. I would definitely give both a call. If there is no action we should write articles in the editorial page of all the local newspapers and see if we can get some outside support. I called the mspca a few months ago. They said that they would look into it. I heard no more. I will call them again tomorrow 7/29. Thanks for getting back to me.I haven't been in town much lately but am still very concerned about this problem.
