The Big Nothing

If Radovan Karadzic were put to death at 10:01 Monday morning, the worth of the world would increase a million fold by 10:02.
Those who know me (a staunch opponent to the death penalty) may be surprised by my words, however, few people have caused so much pain in thi… Continue

Fighting words

Being a native of Fall River, I'm used to the insults -- dangerous city, criminals, drugs, rundown, etc.

Of course these remarks about the Spindle City are always made by people who know as little about Fall River as I do the Red Sox ... not much.

These people (lots seem to come from Attleboro) don't know the true gems in Fall River, like the Portuguese restaraunts, the beautiful Victorian homes, the stunning block-long granite mills, the steep hills, the old-world traditions that contiune to… Continue

Honoring the brave

On Saturday, May 17, Howard Johnson and about 35 other war veterans will hit the streets of Attleboro to raise money for fellow veterans in need through the sales of small red poppies.

It's a small, but symbolic tradition that began after the horror that was World War I. It takes place around Memorial Day and/or Veterans Day each year here, as well as other parts of the world. No matter how it's dressed up, it's still animal abuse

Horse racing fans were quick to come to the defense of the "sport" that on Sunday left a majestic animal dead, claiming such injuries happen in all sports ... well, not quite. A broken ankle does not end an NBA player's life.

William C. Rhoden, writing for the New York Times, said it best after witnessing Sunday's horrorshow called the Kentucky Derby. "This is bullfighting," he wrote.

Bullfighting is outlawed in the United States for good reason. So should horse racing.

He ends his brilliant… Continue

Confusion over Cookson

The job shifting, job loss or whatever one wants to call what's going on over at Cookson in Attleboro as well as its North facility, Leach & Garner, is generating lots of comment today at thesunchronicle.com.

And, rightly so, there's confusion over our page 1 story. Believe me, we are equally confused about the details.
Cookson has yet to detail exactly what it is doing. Apparently the powers that be at the British don't really make a separation when it comes to Attleboro and North .
In a n… Continue

I updated my style blog with an "outfit of the day" and I think that you might want to take a look at it, because it's pretty ridiculous.
