How long have you been out of work? As a result of not having a regular income (unemployment benefits do not count), what is your biggest concern?

My website

The Layoff Support Network was created as a way to help people who have lost their jobs due to either the down-turn of the economy or the greediness of big business. With record numbers of people being laid off, the skills required to survive unexpected unemployment have changed. The job market is flooded with highly qualified people and the competition for newly opening jobs is greater than ever. Couple this with the fact that many companies are continuously eliminating positions, the prospect of rapidly finding a new job is unlikely.

This website was created as a way to unite displaced workers. By combining the accumulated knowledge of many people that have survived, or are currently surviving without a job, the Layoff Support Network is becoming an invaluable resource.

Where this website differs from any other on the web is that its founders are real experts in surviving unexpected unemployment. The Layoff Support Network team is made up of people that have expertise in several different areas related to living after a layoff. The advice and support given by members of the LSN as well as the LSN team are being done so on a volunteer basis. Guest columnists have not been compensated (though guest columnists are allowed to put in a plug for their own businesses at the end of their articles). All submitted articles are screened for their relevancy in value to this site. You will not see any articles that are really advertisements in disguise.

The goals of The Layoff Support Network are simple. We hope that as you experience issues, problems and emotions caused by unexpected unemployment you will come to this website and seek the advice and comfort of people that are feeling the same way. Remember, you are not in this alone. There are hundreds of thousands of other people experiencing similar things.

Another goal of the LSN is to help you find a new job. Over the upcoming weeks we will be posting articles written by employment professionals to help you with your job search.

Please come back to the Layoff Support Network whenever you need help, advice or are feeling alone.

The NYTimes had a brilliant article a few days ago, and I am just getting around to blogging about it now.

In an article titled "Not Laid Off? How to Aid the Less Fortunate". Ron Lieber shows some quick ways to help people who are not as fortunate as you.

The first tip is, if your laid-off friend is technology-impaired, help them set up a LinkedIn profile. While you… Continue

I am one of the co-founders of The Layoff Support Network, a site designed to help people with the other aspects of being jobless: money, health, stress. We do have a very cool job-search function if you register, but that is not our main thrust, since there are other sites that do that well.

The Layoff Support Network was born out of a desire to Pay-it-forward. This is a 100% free, 100% non-commercial site.

We are probably the only website tha… Continue

I dream for help and hope for all, regardless of the cracks they fall through...

Are you cheap or frugal?

(from The Layoff support network http://www.layoffsupportnetwork.com)

I am a transplant to New England from thousands of miles away, and one of the things I first read about when I moved to Boston was the 'Yankee Sesnibility', AKA 'Being Cheap.'

In these tough times, being Frugal is a necessity, but when does that morph into being cheap? Here is a quick exercise. Open a notepad window (or a blank email, or some other document--don't waste pape… Continue
