Earl has finally made his appearance
Play has been suspended at the Deutsche Bank Championship.
A horn signaling that players and spectators must leave the course sounded at 12:35 p.m. to signal a stoppage in play. There was lightning in the area at the time. Rain followed a short time later, all part of Hurricane Earl, which was expected to brush Cape Cod later today.

What happened to Earl?
The much-touted hurricane has yet to make its appearance at TPC Boston in Norton as play began at the $7.5 million Deutsche Bank Championship. The sun was even poking out at times.
No wind, no rain meant one thing: Low scores.

TPC Boston is at its easiest at the beginning and end, and toughest in the middle.
That’s the conclusion you can draw from statistics from last year and from the seven-year history of the Deutsche Bank Championship.
Only one of the first four holes had an average score above par last year, the par-3 third at 3.006. The driveable 298-yard par-4 fourth hole was the second easiest hole of the tournament, playing to an average score of 3.561.

Today is a day for the true dimpleheads at TPC Boston.
On Tuesday and Thursday, the crowds come mainly to see the celebrities, be they former Red Sox like Luis Tiant or Dennis Eckersley (at Tuesday's pro-am) or Donald Trump (normally at Thursday's pro-am but a scratch this year).
So today is just a day for the 100 players taking part in the Deutsche Bank Championship to practice in relative quiet.
