When director's face high fan expectations (read: rabid fanboy guttural cravings), they have one of two choices. First, they can understand and recognize what about previous films or source material made fans react to it in such a manner, or they can throw out everything, ignore fans and only pay attention to the paycheck that the studio has given them.
