Hi, and welcome to Vinnie's Abyss. You will not find me pushing my politics or opinions on you here, rather just offering them up. Feel free to comment, disagree, or send me an email. I love to talk about sports, politics, poetry, bicycles, motorcycles, education, entertainment, family, news, music, food, just about anything! This is not, nor has it ever been a "Rant" (to talk or speak in a loud, wild, extravagant way). It is however, an "Abyss" (bottomless gulf, too deep for measurement)... My goal is "To boldly go where no man or woman has gone before!" Let's get on with it!

I was also told that a tip’s origin dates back to when someone wanted to “insure proper service” they would tip before the meal. I believe now, an… Continue

Fearless or Careless?

In his recent blog post "Bonus thoughts from the shores of Lake Massapoag", Mark Farinella stated "...my experience tells me that programs that never have a chance to win don't grow and prosper, and one of the points of interscholastic athletics is to encourage participation." Huh? Great logic 'Fearless"-- On one hand you are saying that a team that continually finishes in the bottom of the standings will never grow and prosper. Huh again? I've seen many teams turn around in many different sport… Continue

He looked FAVRELOUS!

Watching the Packers-Vikings last night I found myself in a dilemma... Should I hate the Packers because Brett Favre used to be their QB, or should I hate the Vikings because Brett Favre is their QB? It was a lot easier when he played for a NY te… Continue

A tale of two coaches...

Keith Parker has coached football at Boston English High School for 29 years; he is 64 years of age. Even after losing 36-0 to a winless Boston Latin team last Thanksgiving, a team he’s only beaten twice in the nation’s oldest continuous high school football rivalry which… Continue

D-1, D-Only, D-Eck!

Hall of Fame pitcher Dennis Eckersley doesn’t toe the rubber anymore. He’s in the broadcast booth at Fenway Park filling in for Jerry Remy who’s recovering from lung cancer. Eck is familiar with the role. After being a starter from 1975 – 86 and winning 165 games, Eckersley rein… Continue

REMEMBER ME?

Fine People of Massachusetts,

Hey, it’s me, the Sun. Just poking in to say Hi. I know it’s been a while, but I’ve been very busy and although I would like to have been around more often during the month of June, it just wasn’t possible. Now I understand that all you people in Massac… Continue
