The Patriots had Wes Welker, Rodney Harrison, Kevin Faulk and Sammy Morris on a conference call hookup from San Jose State University, but the quality of the conference line was shaky, at best. Welker, in fact, apparently flipped the phone back to Patriots' PR chief Stacey James in disgust when his attempts to answer questions were smothered by portions of the press conference of Red Sox manager Terry Francona, presumably a recording from last night's game, its origin unknown.

Francona's answers, however, fit nicely with the usual non-committal answers from the Patriots' players and coaches, to the point where one reporter asked "can we use that?"

It was a joke, of course.

Harrison expressed pleasure at being on the West Coast for the week, saying that not having to fly six hours twice in one week would be a benefit as he prepared for Sunday night's game against the San Diego Chargers. "I'm 35 ... I need to feel as good as possible," he said.
