Grammy-winning guitar wizard
Tom Hemby has always captured humanity in his music, but the gospel and contemporary jazz master strikes a new chord in his soon-to-be-released third solo album
“In The Moment.”Hemby pays tribute to the international charity
Habitat for Humanity in a star-studded tribute song “Can I Count on You” that boasts contributions from such top names as Vince Gill, Amy Grant and Christopher Cross.
The 14-song CD also features collaborations with such master musicians s drummer Vinnie Colaiuta (of Frank Zappa, Sting and Joni Mitchell fame) and bassist Nathan East, who has worked with the likes of Eric Clapton, Phil Collins and Stevie Wonder.
From first track to last, Hemby’s opus is an accomplished piece of contemporary jazz styling fired by the artist’s own prodigious chops and jazz vocabulary. We won’t bore you with a detailed map of Hemby’s influences; suffice it to say Hemby is one of those artists who elicits comments from unfamiliar listeners like “I didn’t know I liked jazz.”
