Question I: If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it- does it make a sound?
Question II: If a blog gets posted and no one is around to comment- does it make a literary sound?
Hmmm... "I'm not sure!"
I believe most bloggers are those who seek comfort safe inside a forum. Writing can be a solitary event, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. But, for those of us who want to make a sound, even a peep, the blog can become a "literary grab-bag" of sorts. The promise that somewhere, somebody, is actually reading what we have to say. It's our way out of writer's isolation, even if only imagined. Not too unlike being in a room full of strangers, never saying a word, but not feeling the least bit lonely as a result. Or, maybe, for those of us who may question the event in the same way we question the proverbial tree falling, lonelier still...
I'm not sure that my blog posts are making a sound. There are few comments. Yet, I continue posting, hoping my blog washes up on some welcome shore, and with just one simple comment, I can be saved, free from my feeling of writer's isolation.
Blogging is a great forum, freedom of speech, democracy, all that jazz... But, if there are no comments, can we really be sure our blogs are being read? Our opinions being heard?
Without comments, we have no way of knowing... There are no witnesses to confirm the event.

"I'm still not sure..."
