The best part of Justice League: Cry for Justice #1 is everything makes sense.
From the opening sequence to the cliffhanger, writer James Robinson repeatedly answers one simple question.
Where's the Justice in the Justice League?
The story unfolds in such a way that each member ultimately seeks the same thing -- justice for losing a loved one.
That's a far cry from most team books, which form around a coincidental common enemy.
Robinson is making this JL personal.
And he does a great job of distinguishing heart from simple super-heroism. The exchange between Ray Palmer and Ryan Choi is very fascinating, for that reason.
"You want a league. I want justice."
Go get 'em, Hal.
I'm eager to see how Robinson's story plays out. I'm still not sold on Supergirl and Batwoman being members (Red Robin seems a better Bat-family choice). But since neither was introduced this issue, I'll gladly reserve final judgment.
And Mauro Cascioli paints beautifully. His art captures the seriousness of Robinson's story.
