Thanks much to Shalise Manza Young of the Providence Journal for forwarding the game notes to me, and I dutifully pass them along to you:
WHO'S HOT
RANDY MOSS: You knew they were going to try to get him the ball. Five catches for 70 yards and a touchdown isn't a world-beating effort, but it was positive motion on a day when the Patriots were more balanced offensively.
TULLY BANTA-CAIN: Three sacks and six tackles will be another feather in his cap coming contract time.
DERRICK BURGESS: On the field in a new formation in which the Patriots had no defensive linemen in the game, the ex-Raider responds with six solo tackles and a sack.
MIKE WRIGHT: Solid fill-in work in place of Ty Warren with six tackles and a sack. Wright's versatility serves him well.
JONATHAN WILHITE: Interception stops second-quarter drive that was building momentum for the Bills.
LAURENCE MARONEY: By golly, I think he’s finally getting it (23 carries, 81 yards, one TD). Still not Corey Dillon in the fourth quarter, though.
WHO'S NOT
LEIGH BODDEN: Shoved out of the way by Lee Evans and overruns the Buffalo receiver, who comes back to the ball and scores the TD that brought the Bills within seven points.
FOURTH-QUARTER OFFENSIVE PLAYCALLING: The Patriots simply do not know how to put a close game away.
WHO'S LUKEWARM
TOM BRADY: He completed 11 of 23 passes for 115 yards, with one TD and one interception, doing just enough to win the game and fortunately, not enough to lose it.
WES WELKER: Tough to judge against his recent performances, but it wasn’t a great day -- four catches for 40 yards, the biggest being the 9-yarder on the last possession. He also had a couple drops. No one will accuse him of “dogging it,” though.
RON BRACE: Bills’ ability to run up the middle early in the game proves he’s no Vince Wilfork. His shortcomings were minimized by a revitalized pass rush.
