Perhaps you have seen those television ads criticizing President Obama's attempts to reform health care.
You know the ones. They feature horror stories about the Canadian and British systems, even though Obama has no intention of imposing a government-run medical system such as those in Canada and England.
In any case, have you ever wondered who the spokesman in the ads are?
He is Texan Rick Scott and he knows a lot about what is wrong about the American health care system because he is the poster boy for its problems.
Scott was the head of a hospital chain Columbia/HCA before he was forced out in 1997 as his firm was being investigated for fraud.
Shortly after he was deposed Columbia/HCA was fined a record $1.7 billion for overbilling the state and federal government for health care costs.
It would seem that Mr. Scott is afraid not so much that bureaucrats will be making medical decisions under a reformed system, but that people like him won't be able to bilk taxpayers as easily.
So afraid, in fact, that he is spending $5 million of his own money to defeat any reform and he has hired the same public relations firm that produced the dishonest Swift Boat ads to help him.
Now, who do you think the voters are going to believe? A president with high ratings for integrity, or Rick Scott?
With enemies like Rick Scott Obama does not need friends.
