INTERVIEW: Batgirl inker Jack Purcell talks to the 'Word

The issue of Batgirl you bought this month traveled through Western Massachusetts. That's where inker Jack Purcell lives. Purcell is inking issues 2, 4 and 6 of the 6-issue Batgirl mini-series. Issue 4 came out on Oct. 15. Batgirl #6 ships on Dec. 17. In between, Purcell will be in Boston this Sunday, Nov. 2, for the 4th Boston Comic Con. Will Lightning strike again?: An interview with original Black Lightning artist Trevor Von Eeden

Trevor Von Eeden's pencils are as sharp as the lightning bolts hurled by his signature character. More than 30 years after he and writer Tony Isabella debuted DC's Black Lightning, Von Eeden remains associated in fans' minds with him. And given a chance, Von Eeden would draw him again. Most recently, the artist's drawing boards were dominated by "my first self-written book," a 240-page graphic novel biography of boxer Jack Johnson, the original black heavyweight champ. The story is "told from… Continue

Boy Blunder: "D.J." Grayson is just, well, wrong!

The CW Network's latest super-hero show is for the birds: http://www.newsarama.com/tv/100801-GraysonsonCW.html . I definitely can see Robin appealing to the CW crowd. Good-looking, smart, athletic male teen. The girls will love him. The Jonas Brothers had better enjoy their 15 minutes, because there's a new cover boy. Heck, send over Bart Allen and Vic Stone from Smallville, and you've got the makings of a live action Teen Titans show. But please. "D.J." Grayson??? Since when has th… Continue

Small world

Six degrees of separation, comics-style. Turns out that inker Bob Almond -- check here for our interview from this spring -- and I have a mutual friend. Bob knows Paul Pereira, whom I lived with on campus at SMU/UMass-Dartmouth back in the late '80s. We're all in the same graduating class, 1990.

Nice! I must have missed the post...what a great weekend it was! We were surprised how many of the real old-timer comics guys were hanging out in Artists Alley.

Yay comics! Though I have to say, in reviewing your past blogs, I noticed the stark absence of any mention of the New York Comic Con (April 18-20) - also known as "The awesomest weekend I spent this year with my nerd husband". You missed a fantastic time :(
